Become a volunteer: help yourself by helping others

All of those of you who are interested in participating in the Social and Volunteering Program will find here all of the information relative to the volunteering activities.

In the case of being a volunteer coordinator, it is important to see if the activity requires attendance or only coordination and monitoring.

There are MAXIMUM CAPACITIES in some of the activities since the volunteer work responds to coverage of the users’ real needs.

ACTIVITIES

1. LEISURE AT THE POOL WITH CHILDREN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

Playa de la Victoria Sports Center. Calle Hierbabuena, 2. 28039 Madrid. Sundays from noon to 1 p.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To provide fun, playing with the children in the water.
INTENDED for dynamic people with a great capacity for enjoyment.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Children with intellectual disability.
Description: Help the children to get changed in the locker rooms and spend an hour at the pool, playing with them.

2. BALLROOM DANCING WITH ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

Triángulo de Oro Sports Center. Calle Bravo Murillo, 376. 28020 Madrid. Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m..
MAIN OBJECTIVE: For all of us to feel equal while we all dance together.
INTENDED for dynamic people with the capacity to enjoy themselves with other people.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Youths and adults with intellectual disability.
Description: Group dance classes, led by a monitor.

3. ACCOMPANYING PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY IN LEISURE ACTIVITIES

Local association Juntos para Jugar (‘Together to Play’). Calle Torrijos 20. 28029 Madrid. Saturdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To take an interest in the lives of other people in order to have fun together.
INTENDED for curious, patient people with a very good sense of humor.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Youths and adults with intellectual disability.
Description: Accompaniment in free time, either in activities proposed by the association, or with games at the venue which might be proposed by the volunteers (singing, dancing, chatting, etc…).

4. SHARING BINGO AND INFORMAL CONVERSATION WITH ELDERLY PEOPLE

Orpea Moraleja Rest Home. Urb. Cuesta Blanca. Ctra. N-1, Km. 14, 28108 – Alcobendas (Madrid).
Friday: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. or Sunday: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

MAIN OBJECTIVE: To alleviate the loneliness of elderly people.
INTENDED for empathetic people capable of active listening.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Elderly people at a rest home.
Description: Take advantage of the game of bingo to chat and interact with the elderly people who are playing.

5. KARAOKE/MEMORY GAMES/CRAFTS (one activity every Saturday)

Orpea Moraleja Rest Home. Urb. Cuesta Blanca. Ctra. N-1, Km. 14, 28108 – Alcobendas (Madrid). Saturdays: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To alleviate the loneliness of elderly people.
INTENDED for creative, dynamic people, capable of listening and interacting.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Elderly people at a rest home.
Description: Share the described activities in order to provide a good time with entertainment and informal chatting. One activity is carried out every Saturday (alternating).

6. #HOYSALIMOS (#WE’RE GOING OUT TODAY): ACCOMPANIMENT OF MINORS WITH DISABILITY TO LEISURE ACTIVITIES

Different venues in Madrid. Saturdays: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To give a family a breather, while their son/daughter has fun with you and yours.
INTENDED for families that want their child to have a really good time.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Children between the ages of 3 and 12 with some type of disability.
Description: Children are picked up at their homes at 10:30 for a gathering at the meeting point, where they are redirected to activities scheduled until 1 p.m.
There are 5 outings throughout the school year; 5 dates will be chosen out of 13 proposals.

7. ACADEMIC SUPPORT AT COLEGIO SAN PATRICIO

Colegio San Patricio (El Soto). Library. 1 day a week from Monday to Thursday. 4:45 p.m. to 6 p.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To make students see that they are capable of learning and to raise their self-esteem.
INTENDED for other students at school who want to help another classmate in his/her studies.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Students at El Soto in lower grades who need booster classes.
Description: Starting in the second trimester, the need usually arises for certain students to work on a specific subject. The volunteer students mastering the subjects may reinforce these studies.

8. CHILDCARE FOR TEACHERS’ CHILDREN

Colegio San Patricio (Moraleja and Serrano). Wednesday. 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To ease teachers’ work at school with the peace of mind that their children are being well looked after.
INTENDED for students that like small children and playing with them.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: Primary students.
Description: Time for entertainment and games for teachers’ young children.

9. CHAMPIONS PROGRAM: ACCOMPANIMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY TO GREAT SPORTS EVENTS

Palacio de los Deportes. Weekends.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To be able to give people with disability the chance to go to sporting events thanks to our accompaniment. To spend a great day of fun with them.
INTENDED for people who like sports and are sociable, willing to enjoy these events with other people.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: People with some type of disability or reduced mobility.
Description: Accompaniment to five sporting events (basketball) of people with disability and socialization with them.

10. TO BE THE BEST WAITERS AT A RESTAURANT FOR PEOPLE IN A VULNERABLE SITUATION

Robin Hood Restaurants in Madrid. Friday, starting at 7:30 p.m. (2 hours approx.).
MAIN OBJECTIVE: Dignify the person through good service and a pleasant environment.
INTENDED for empathetic, active, kind people.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: People in a risky or vulnerable situation due to a lack of resources.
Description: Waiter service activity at either of the two restaurants which Father Ángel of Messengers of Peace has set up in Madrid.

11. BREAKFASTS FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE

St. Anton’s Church. Calle de Hortaleza, 63, 28004 Madrid. Saturdays, 7:30 a.m.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To feel the reality of people who find themselves in a situation of complete helplessness due to life’s circumstances.
INTENDED for empathetic people interested in other people’s problems.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: People in a risky or vulnerable situation due to a lack of resources.

12. PROGRAM FOR ENVIRONMENTS WITHOUT BARRIERS. ACCOMPANIMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY TO DETECT BARRIERS.

Different spots in Madrid. Weekends.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To accompany the reality of people with different disabilities, in order to detect the obstacles which they face in their day-to-day life.
INTENDED for people capable of living the experience of people with disability and the obstacles they come across day by day.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: People with different disabilities (visual, hearing, motor…)

13. HOME FOOD DELIVERY

Established routes to 4-5 homes in the neighborhood of San Blas. Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings, once a month.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: To supply basic food needs to people without resources and accompany them in their solitude.
INTENDED for empathetic, active, sociable people.
BENEFICIARY GROUP: People without resources.
Description: Once a month a route established by the responsible entity is covered. The work consists of picking up the food to be delivered from the venue on Calle Hinojosa del Duque and carrying out delivery to an average of 4 homes (Saturdays or Sundays). Together with the package delivery, a period of time is established to share with the recipients.
